Festival City Theatres Trust is the largest independent theatre organisation in Scotland, and is at the forefront of the arts in Edinburgh. The Company, which has charitable status, was formed in July 1998 with the merger of the Edinburgh Festival Theatre Trust and the King’s Theatre, Edinburgh.
“It is the mission of Festival City Theatres Trust to energise and entertain audiences with first class programming at the King’s and Festival Theatres. To communicate to all who live in and within touch of Edinburgh the stimulating power of live theatre and to ensure that the programmes and services are as attractive, accessible and stimulating as possible.”
No matter what you prefer: Drama, Dance, Ballet, Concerts, Musicals, Opera or Children's theatre, there's sure to be something at either the Edinburgh Festival Theatre or the King's Theatre to delight you!
The Festival Theatre is the capital's arena for Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet and is at the heart of the Edinburgh International Festival. The Theatre programmes an annual contemporary dance season alongside large-scale musicals, International ballet companies and a variety of one-night musical events.
The King's Theatre houses visits from the Royal National Theatre and other major touring drama productions as well as being home to Edinburgh's annual pantomime and the local amateur societies' productions.
“It is the artistic policy of the Trust to deliver within the programmes of both theatres a dynamic and relevant vision of theatre and it’s power to stimulate, move and entertain: ensuring the programme is quality driven and accessible to all sections of the community. To have a distinct European and international perspective.”
